"A Small Good Thing" by Pamela Tanner Boll asks the question: “What does it take to live a good life: a life of purpose, happiness and meaning?”  The film follows the stories of six people who have chosen a more holistic conception of happiness — one based on a close connection to their bodies, to the natural world, and to the greater good. While one of the six stories covers a social worker, the underlying message really ties back to the question of what makes us happy in life. As social workers, empowering people, groups or communities can be a source of strength and lead to happiness. Ensuring holistic well-being is essential for continued social work practice and this film can serve as a template for critical self-analysis.
